ABOUT ME
From forcing her friends perform skits at sleepovers to making her off-Broadway debut, Sam has always loved writing silly stories for her friends to perform. The daughter of a preschool teacher and a military veteran, Sam grew up in Maine where “wicked” was just a word to describe how cold it was. In a dingy, definitely haunted old theater in central Maine, Sam spent one week every summer at performing arts camp where the kids wrote and starred in their own play - and honestly, she’s been trying to replicate that experience of pure imaginative bliss ever since, so she attended Ithaca College and graduated with a degree in theatre arts and a minor in writing for film, television, and emerging media.
After graduating, Sam moved to New York City where she spent too much money on rent and lattes and worked as a Radio City Tour Guide all while falling deeply in love with sketch comedy. Sam studied sketch and improv at the Upright Citizen’s Brigade and her original sketches were performed at comedy theaters throughout the city. Some of her most notable character sketches were: Girl at the Front of the Human Centipede, Jake Gyllenhaal’s Handmaid, and Extra Slutty Olive Oil.
As a freelance writer (aka trying to make up for all the money she spent on lattes) she wrote feminist erotica, reality TV recaps, and online satire pieces for Slackjaw Humor, the Belladonna, Little Old Lady Comedy, and Points in Case.
A recent Chicago transplant, Sam’s been loving connecting with other Chicago artists, choking down shots of Malört, and putting hand warmers in her bra.
When she’s not writing or doing her actual job that makes her money, Sam spends her time watching reality tv (I wish I could say other things like rock climbing or pottery, but let’s be real - any free time I have, my ass is on the couch watching messy people make terrible decisions)
She also was an extra in Paul Blart Mall Cop.
